Kathmandu Durbar Square is located in the heart of Kathmandu, which translates to Royal Square. It is also known as Basantapur and Hanuman Dhoka. It is also one of the capital’s most visited landmarks. The Durbar is divided into two courtyards: the outer courtyard houses Kasthamandap, Kumari Ghar, and the Shiva-Parvati Temple, and the inner section comprises Hanuman Dhoka and the primary palace. Several floors have been transformed into museums honoring three generations of Nepal’s Shah kings. Most areas of the palace grounds welcome tourists every day of the week. It is believed that the construction of the Durbar Square dates back to the Licchavi era, around the 3rd century. But the major temples, buildings and monuments were built by the Malla kings between the 13th and 18th centuries.
Pashupatinath Temple is a popular Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Devotees from all over the world visit here to offer their prayers. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple premises. However, other visitors can enjoy the spiritual vibe of Pashupatinath temple from a respectful distance. Beyond just a place of worship, this temple complex is a significant cultural and historical site, showcasing Nepal’s deep religious traditions.
